Metal Finishing Company - Murdock Facility

In 2008 MFCO continued its expansion by purchasing an additional 160,000 sq foot facility approximately 3 miles north of the main Wichita plant. MFCO South is currently set up with several Non-Destructive testing processes. These include Eddy Current Testing, Weld Inspection, Ultrasonic Inspection and X-Radiography on aluminum, steels and composites. By second quarter of 2009 will have two additional process lines will be installed. Line one will be dedicated to Phosphoric Acid Anodize. This will be couple with the addition of a climate controlled clean room for the application of bond primers and sensitive top coats. This line will support aluminum parts as well as composites and bonded assemblies.

The second process line, what we have designated as the “Hot Shot Line” will be dedicated to parts that fall into a set envelope by size and process and Preapproved LTA programs. This line will increase our aluminum process capacity by an additional 40%. The parts will be received into the covered truck bay. Internal work orders will be created using the Rapid entry method for orders received directly to MFCO North or will be transferred to this facility and pre-released to the floor. From there they will travel in a “horse shoe” configuration through the required processing.

The processing available at this facility will include Penetrant Inspect, Chem Film, Anodize, Minimal Masking, Prime, and Top coat. Penetrant inspect is being set up in line with order entry. The parts will be racked directly from the Penetrant line for wet processing. The parts then will travel down the line through the specified processes. Part s will be removed from the Chem Film or Anodize racks and placed directly onto paint screens or paint carts. After the designated primers and /or paints are applied the carts will be moved to the inspection area, Where they will be inspected, Stamped and packaged directly off the carts.

This facility MFCO North has been designed to drastically reduce queue time and eliminate travel time between processes. This is our answer to the customers call to decrease lead time without increasing processing costs.
