NDT Inspection
Metal Finishing Company has served the aerospace industry since 1945. In 1995 the company purchased the Qest Company and expanded the NDT capabilities. Today the company is known as one of the premier "NDT Houses" in the Midwest. The NDT staff of Metal Finishing is in tune with the aerospace industry. The company has membership on the ASTM E7 committee and develops NDT standards, serves on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Nondestructive Testing and also on committees that define certification requirements.
The NDT staff also holds professional industry certifications issued by American Society of Nondestructive Testing, American Society of Quality and the American Society of Welding. Metal Finishing is one of the few 3rd party laboratories in the US that offers inspection services on global scale. We hold several prime contractor approvals and familiar with the various unique requirements of each. We have inspection capabilities of titanium honeycomb to facesheet LID bonds; and, titanium, steel and aluminum wrought and forged raw material.
Our company is proud of the ultrasonic capabilities and consider it our nitch. We have 3 through transmission inspection gantries that also have pulse echo capability. Each system has independent data acquisition and flaw sizing tools to facilitate analysis. Scans are saved to CD’s and provided to the customer for review and record retention. Reader programs are provided to all customers. Part inspection envelope is presently limited to 8’ in width with not length limitation. Software permits zone inspection and stitching for long parts. With 3 gantries in service and 1 in reserve, out inspection through-put is exceptional. Most jobs are turned in 5 business days. Expedite and weekend services are also available upon request.
The company holds accreditation by NADCAP and serves as an FM Repair Station performing in-service inspection of aircraft. We are proud of our accomplishments and look forward to earn your trust in our capabilities.

LTA Programs - Murdock Facility
MFCO’s new Murdock plant has been designed and engineered using lean concepts and a cellular approach to processing. This concept has virtually eliminated costly queue time enabling MFCO to offer time efficient processing at very competitive costs. This proposal would allow Spirit to more cost effectively utilize its large tank capacity for processing larger parts in house, eliminating the need to off load larger more complicated, expensive parts for processing. Cost saving could be realized in more efficient use of tank sizes, freight cost and minimizing damage due to handling of larger parts.
Processing would include
• Penetrant Inspection
• Boric/Sulfuric Anodize
• Chemical Conversion
• Prime (common primers)
The Objective: Cost savings by the creation of LTA with Customers on Aluminum parts that fall within a 36” X 36” size range.
Contract Previsions
1. Guaranteed 72 hour turn, with unit price penalty clause. Current published turn 7 days.
2. No expedite fee or unit price premium added for the 72 hour turn. (Order Entry to Certification)
3. Incorporate RFID tracking linked between Customer and MFCO.
4. Rules based messaging provided.
5. Electronic data transfer.
